![]() Preliminary Checks Before we actually begin to clean your teeth, we will first ask some questions that will help us gauge where you are in terms of your oral health. We may discuss your oral hygiene routines, give you tips and pointers, and ask a few other general health questions. Following this, we will do a screen for oral cancer. This only takes a few moments. We will visually inspect your soft tissue (cheeks and gums) to see of there is any evidence of cancerous growths. We may also run a gloved finger over the surfaces to check for any abnormalities. After this, we will use a special tool to measure the depth of your gum tissue pockets. Most people have small pockets around the teeth, and this is fine. However, if you have abnormally deep pockets, it could be a sign of something such as gum disease. We will record our measurements so we have a baseline to check against during future visits. The Dental CheckupAfter this, we may take a few X-rays. This is not something we will always do; it will depend on how long it has been since you had a set done. The X-rays let us check under the surface to see if there are any issues that need to be addressed. Finally, we will give your teeth a good cleaning, followed by a fluoride polishing. This helps keep your teeth strong and healthy. So, now that you know about the process, call us today and make an appointment! |
