Top 4 Things to Remember About Dental Care When TravelingNeglecting the maintenance of good oral hygiene habits when you're traveling is easy to do. When you're away from home it takes a little more planning to maintain your routine. Hopefully we can help you with this.

Tips to Help You Maintain Your Oral Hygiene Routine While Traveling

When you're packing your suitcase, make sure you have your toothbrush, toothpaste, and mouthwash. You should have a protective cover with ventilation holes in it for your toothbrush. If you're flying, it's best to keep your toothbrush in your carry-on bag so you can easily access it if necessary. Additionally, you should avoid sticky, sugary snacks while on a long flight and opt for plenty of water and sugar-free gum instead.

Once you're in your hotel room remove your toothbrush from its cover so it doesn't stay wet because then it can easily breed bacteria. You want to make sure it's completely dry before covering it again. You should also remember that if the water where you're staying isn't safe for drinking, it isn't safe for brushing your teeth either. If this is the case, you should use bottled water.

Dealing with Dental Emergencies While Traveling

You never know when you may encounter a dental emergency, which is why they're called an “emergency.” However, you can do your best to avoid them from happening by taking some simple steps like never chewing on anything that could cause you to break or chip a tooth. When a dental emergency arises, it's best to be prepared by having an over-the-counter pain medication in your suitcase with you.

We recommend ibuprofen for such occasions. Additionally, before leaving for your trip, you should also make sure you call and schedule an appointment with our office so we can take care of any problems before they grow bigger.
