How Often Should You Change Your Toothbrush?
Posted on 11/10/2019 by Dr. Todd Rogers
The next time you wander into your bathroom, take a good look at your toothbrush. Are the bristles frayed, or are they still straight? When was the last time you swapped out your toothbrush? Many people wait too long between changing out their toothbrushes. If you are not sure when the last time you changed your toothbrush was, it is definitely time to change it. The Normal Times of Changing Your Toothbrush For people who do not have a compromised immune system, you should opt to change your toothbrush about every 90 days. It could be a few days less or a few days more, but this is the goal. It is easy to do on the first of the month, every three months, so you can keep track. If you get sick to where you need medication, particularly if your illness is contagious, then you should also swap out your toothbrush for a new one once your medication is up. This means you will not put the old germs back into your mouth and potentially get yourself sick all over again. Finally, if you find out that your toothbrush was used by someone else, go out and switch out your toothbrush immediately. By sharing a toothbrush, you are putting someone else's germs and bacteria into your mouth. This could make you sick, or even make you more susceptible to cavities. If you are not sure how often you should change your toothbrush, then call us. We can schedule a time for you to come in and get seen to where we can discuss your specific toothbrush needs....
